MARK BREITHAUPT - ARTIST INFORMATION

For as long as he can remember,
Mark Breithaupt has
loved to work with his hands. As a young boy growing
up in Shreveport, Louisiana, Mark began
developing
his creativity by
building elaborate forts from bamboo
stalks he cut down near his home. Later, he helped his
father, a masonry contractor, build commercial and
residential buildings. After Mark's father acquired his
own manufacturing plant, Mark expanded his medium
to metal and
learned to weld fledgling metal sculptures.
In early adulthood, Mark
traveled the United States and
abroad working in the communications business,
while
maintaining his hobbies of woodworkingand home
remodeling. Later,
Mark's passion for outdoor
sports led him to scuba diving and skydiving. Consumed
by the artistic nature of the human formations in free-fall,
he spent
several years as a professional sky- diving
photographer and videographer. His unique work
has been recognized on national television and local and national
magazines. Mark's fascination with the form and movement of
skydivers'
artistic formations was like human sculpture in motion. This influenced his
decision to embark on the ever changing forms made possible through
stone carving. His
yearning to be totally engrossed in the technical and
artistic process in a more personal way was finally fulfilled. He gave
up filming skydivers and rallied his skills for the most fulfilling artistic
pursuit of my life. Mark is a
member of the International Sculpture Center.
We are pleased to have
Mark Breithaupt
showing at LKG Contemporary
in Scottsdale, Arizona.

MARK BREITHAUPT -
CONTINUING EVOLUTION
A continuing evolution in
Marks artistic process led
him to expand his
medium to include stones from around the world including onyx,
marbles, travertine, sandstone, calcite, alabasters and soapstone.
His
carvings explore each stone type to uncover its unique qualities.
Mark's work
encompasses a variety of styles and forms influenced by
the colors and textures
of the stones. Marks sculptures are not only
a visual experience, but tactile,
so the polished sculptures draw your
hand to touch and caress.
Mark states, "I like to push the limits of the material wherever
possible. I want people to feel the passion behind my delicate
abstract forms, and connect with the spiritual component that
inspires all my designs.
My favorite stones are Grand Canyon onyx, Yule and Carrera
marble. The onyx allows me to express an emotional and
spiritual sense of meaning through its rich colors and textures.
The Yule and Carrera marbles
possess a simplistic quality for
form and a propensity toward delicacy and
sensuality.
Grand Canyon onyx, a stunning stone, is comprised of rich
earth tones and deep reds. The true beauty, form and texture
of the stone
always unfolds through the carving and polishing
process. This results in flowing,
organic forms with striking
patterns of sienna, amber, chocolate, cream, white
and
burgundy."
