DAMIAN ROBINSON - ARTIST
INFORMATION
Born in Phoenix, Arizona in
1974,
Robinson's passion
for art and film began at an early age. After graduation
from the Academy of Art College in 2000, he then
worked on several feature films and music videos.
With a love for travel he spent time abroad
studying art and cultures from all over the world.
Robinson returned to Arizona, where he became
renowned for his professional photography which
captured characteristic and distinctive regional
landscapes. In 2005, he moved to Mexico to focus
on his first documentary film. The film illustrated the
compassion needed and educational problems
concerning the impoverished life of orphans in Mexico. Inspired by this life
experience Robinson returned to Arizona. Here he pursued his life-long
desire to concentrate entirely upon fine art. After generating critical acclaim
and attention with his life like sculptures, he turned to fine art paintings to
capture his creative vision.
DAMIAN ROBINSON - ARTIST
STATEMENT AND THE PROCESS
"I often find deep
inspiration in mother nature; the four
elements of being water, fire, wind and earth. These
elements are very present within the abstract forms of
my work. I feel my work has a strong connection to
nature by using ground minerals in the medium. I also
try to express a vast array of emotion in my work.
It is significant for me to create a piece of art that is
not only visually stimulating but also evokes emotion.
When I paint I live in
the moment. I am consumed with
emotions and color. It's a methodical process of
discovering the unknown," states Damian Robinson
Phoenician artist Damian has
invented a new and innovative
technique to apply paint to panel through the art of chemistry.
With exotic pigments, semi-precious metals, finely ground
minerals and synthetic resin, he pushes the limits of modern
art to create pieces that represent a harmony between the
abstract and representational.
By mastering this extremely
difficult use of resin, Damian took
the traditional methods of mixing pigments to the next level. The
methods of chemistry have allowed him to create a substance
that produces pure pigments that are untainted by others in close
proximity. Applying up to ten layers, he creates suspended
rivers of hardened color. The result is a piece with glass-like
finish that pushes the constraints of the viewers' visual experience.
Robinson's passion for the earth can be seen in many of his works
and can only be truly appreciated by a first hand experience.
