CHESTON TURNBULL -ARTIST INFORMATION
Early in his career, Cheston Turnbull studied fine
art at the University of
South Dakota and Black Hills State University. But
his passion for direct
sculpture emerged full-blown when he attended his first
stone carving
symposium in Jemez Springs, New Mexico in 1998. He
has returned every
year since, and in 2002, spent a month in Pietrasanta,
Italy, learning to
carve marble from
"the masters".Turnbull's facility
with the stone media
is evident in each piece he makes. His method is
natural and always direct.
He works without preliminary models or sketches, he simply
engages the
stone and releases exquisite organic forms.
Cheston says,
"I just want to continually evolve as a stone
sculptor."
Many say that he already has evolved into a master sculptor.
We are pleased to have
Cheston Turnbull showing at LKG Contemporary in
Scottsdale, Arizona.
