BEATJulio Zalazar Designing and Finishing A Vessel RIZ CABEZAS - JULIO ZALAZAR- ABOUT THEIR WORK

Beatriz Cabezas and Julio Zalazar have a workshop in Las Toscas where they make and fire their vessels. All the pieces are origBeatriz Cabezas doing a second firing in their kiln. inal designs. They first give shape to the clay and then fire it. Many of the pieces are Raku which have been transformed through the years with the use of new procedures.  After biscuit firing, the ceramic pieces are glazed and fired again at 950 degrees Centigrade. The pieces are withdrawn from the kiln and smoked in sawdust to obtain "cracking" and a metallic luster. The iron structures are designed by Julio to fit each piece and are built through electric welding.
